THE EXHIBIT:
East China Liberated Areas were developed and expanded from the foundations of Shandong Anti-Japanese Base Area and Huazhong (Central China) Anti-Japanese Base Area which were subsequently called Shandong Liberated Area and Huazhong Liberated Area (or Su-Wan Liberated Area) respectively during the War of Liberation.
After the Marco Polo Bridge Incident on July 7th, 1937, the Anti-Japanese War broke out. In December, 1938, the General Communication Station was set up. Since then, various communication stations, sub-stations, wartime postal organizations, post offices, etc. were established one after another in the liberated areas in East China Region and stamps were also issued. Many of the stamps and covers of these periods of hardship and tough wartime conditions have become not only China’s philatelic gems and treasures but also China’s most precious revolutionary relics. There followed the civil war (1946-1949) with the Nationalists.
This exhibit is a display of a thorough study as well as an original research of these issues with artist’s drawings, trial proofs, unissued essays, specimens and examples of usage on coversarranged in chronological order consisting of the following Anti-Japanese Base Areas and Liberated Areas: Shandong Area; Central China; & East China.
