THE EXHIBIT:

In 1894, to celebrate the 60th birthday of Empress Dowager, the Imperial China issued its first set of commemorative stamps. In 1897 when the National Postal Service was initiated and opened to the public, these stamps were surcharged with new denominations in accordance with the currency system.  The transitional time and situation when these stamps were issued have made them the most intriguing stamps in China.

This exhibit begins with First Print color proof on laid paper, followed by Second Print and Re-drawn Design. For Surcharges, the order of Small Figure, Large Figure Wide Spacing, Narrow Spacing is dealt with. Such arrangement is to show its complexity from the beginning to the end. A few unique items are named as follows:

1. First Print 9 Candarins tete-be-che color proof on thin laid paper and on white paper

2. One of the two known pair of unwatermarked proof on white paper

3. The earliest first print stamp registered cover sent abroad and earliest local usage

4. Covers with 24 Candarins

5. One of the two covers with 4 cents double surcharge

6. The largest block of Small Figure Double Surcharge

7. 3 of 17 recorded 9 cents Double Surcharges with positions re-constructed

8. One of the 9 extant 10 cents large figures wide spacing on 12 Candarins First Print (Commonly known as “Golden Dragon”)

9. One of the 20 extant 30 cents large figure narrow spacing on 24 Candarins First Print  (Commonly known as “Ruby”)

10. The only known complete left pane of 30 cents on 24 Candarins right side, imperforate and one right re-constructed pane with double perforation

11. Covers with Hangchow Imperial and dollar daters

12. Left pane of 30 cents on 24 Candarins, large figure, wide spacing with imperforate

展品介绍:

1894年慈禧太后60大寿，海关邮政为此发行了中国第一套纪念邮票,以资庆祝。1897年大清邮政官局成立，废银两改采新的银元制，匆促间将库存及新添印的慈寿票加盖暂作洋银,以应急需之用，因而产生了中国邮票史上变异最多与最富有趣味之系列邮票。

展品先由香烟纸试模票及各式样票开始作一系列介绍，正票从初版、再版、改版票排列，加盖票则由小字、大字长距、短距作详尽说明,俾令观众了解此套邮票从头至尾复杂的演进过程。其中含有如下珍罕票封：

1. 香烟纸9分银试模对倒票与白纸9分银试模对倒票

2. 存世2件之一的双连无水印试印纸

3. 贴中国纪念票最早日期的国际挂号封及国内实寄封

4. 多件贴24分银元面值邮票的实寄封

5. 存世2件之一的小字4分复盖票实寄封

6. 存世最大方连的小字半分复盖票

7. 展出3枚存世仅知17枚的9分复盖票

8. 著名的初版大字长距12分银改作壹角票(俗称金龙票)

9. 著名的初版大字短距24分银改作叁角票(俗称红宝石)

10. 长距三角直行复齿右全格票

11. 珍罕的盖杭州帝国戳的实寄封及盖杭州大圆戳实寄封

12. 长距三角右边漏齿左全格存世孤品票
