This exhibit illustrates the postal history of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army from 1931 to 1953. The period is significant in that it runs parallel to the history of the founding of New China during which the Chinese People’s Liberation Army had played a major and decisive role to see the nation through its birth and ensure its continued success and stability in the years of early infancy. The period is also one of almost continuous war and conflict arising from proletarian revolution, Japanese Aggression, civil war, and the need to guard against external threat in the Korean War.

The flames of war had naturally destroyed much of the records and mail. The military growing from small bands of local militia to strength of several millions, had seen actions of guerrilla warfare and full frontal assault with tides of success and failure. Military postal services established in the times of war were at times hasty and very brief, for troop movements were incessant and temporary loss of territory gained often led to disbandment or disruption of services.

During wartime, the military postal service was responsible for delivering official documents private letters and newspapers within the military and between the army and no-military organizations or civilians. Special organizations were set up and special personnel assigned to run the military postal service with delivery through the military postal network. Favoured treatment of reduced or post-free privilege had all along been given to military mail.

本邮集讲述的是中国人民解放军1931年至1953年军事邮政历史的故事。这一时期中国连续经历了土地革命战争、抗日战争、解放战争和抗美援朝战争，是中国近代史上最艰难、最重要的历史时期。可以说，如果没有中国人民解放军的决定性作用，就不可能有新中国的诞生，也不可能有新中国建立后的长期稳定。

中国人民解放军从弱小的军事组织发展到几百万强大军队，经历了从游击战争到大规模的兵团作战。在战争时期的军邮机构，有的很快成立；有的则成立后又很快消失；军邮服务往往各自为政。由于战争的残酷，记载历史的许多军事文件、邮件、档案在战火中损毁。因此，搜集和研究这一时期的军邮品相当困难。

在战争中，军事邮政机构担负邮递军队内部以及同军外互寄公文、私人信件、报刊等任务。军邮有专门的组织机构和人员，执行军队独特的规章制度，邮件主要通过军邮传递网秘密送达。军人信件一直享受资费减免优待。

本邮集素材几乎都是在战火中保存下来的军人信件，作者从已经少见的邮品中精心挑选了更为难得的邮品，有系列地进行了展示。这是一部不可复制的邮集。
