THE EXHIBIT:

The exhibit shows a study of the three issues of so-called “Soles de Montevideo” (“Suns of Montevideo”).

-Suns Thin Figures, printed by Mege and Wilems in Montevideo by litographic system in sheets without dent of 204 stamps, with twenty types in fine paper, issued the July 1, 1959. It consists of six denominations of 60, 80 100, 120,180 & 240 cents. Whitdrawn from circulation on January 1, 1861.

-Suns Thick Figures, crisp printing, in sheets without dent of 192 stamps, with 24 types in fine paper. It consists of a value of 60 cts., issued on January of 1860.Withdrawn from circulation in December 1860.

-Suns Thick Figures, gross printing, on sheets without denting of 192 stamps, with 12 types in fine paper, issued in 1861 to 1864. It consists of five denominations of 60, 80, 100, 120 and 180 cents. Withdrawn on January 1, 1866.

Within this latter issue different sheets with nuances are well known. The stamp of the Sun of 60 cents, issued between 1861 and 1864, is considered the stamp that shows the greater variety of colours throughout the philatelic world.

The exhibit displays reconstructions of new and used types, subtypes, multiple pieces, and varieties of colour and printing, postmark applied during its circulation, fragments and a large number of letters circulated that are very rare and a sheet of 204 units.

The exhibit presents an unpublished study of the Sub Types of the Sun Thin Figures of 180 cents as an original research.
